Azumi Uehara suspected of mistress fraud

allkpop

Japanese pop singer Azumi Uehara is currently being accused of multiple accounts of fraud. It is reported that she was a key member in a group that engaged in "Aijin Keiyaku" or "mistress contracts" and would lure men into giving her large amounts of money.

Uehara acted as the bait in the scheme and would use a fake handle online to convince men to enter into a contract with her for 2.5 million yen (roughly 29,000 USD). She would then sleep with the man only once before running off with the money. The group has been accused of fooling about 10 men this way and getting over 20 million yen in the process. Pictures of her with the mastermind of the illegal group were unearthed and used as further evidence to connect her to the swindling ring.

Uehara is an accomplished pop singer, with eight singles and two albums to her name. She is best known for her ending song to the anime show "Detective Conan" called "Aoi Aoi kono Hoshi ni." Although she was well known, she hasn't been active since 2006 when she released her last album. It was rumored in the past that she was "mentally unstable" and these claims of her being in this fraud scheme only seem to back that up.

When Uehara's management was questions about the singer's involvement the company stated that they had been unable to contact her. Despite that, her contract was terminated on July 19th for breach of contract.
