Japan’s CD sales drop

With the fast pace of the internet and file sharing, Japan’s CD album sales have plummeted. SIP, a market research company conducted a research for CD sales for the first half of the fiscal year. The accumulated costs of CD singles and albums for 2010 are 120.6B yen. This is a 7.4% drop from around the same time in 2009. While CD singles revenue increased by 1%, album sales dropped 10%.
For top selling artist revenue, Tohoshinki ranked number one selling approximately ¥2.3 Billion, with Arashi in second place with ¥2.2 Billion, and FUNKY MONKEY BABYS with ¥1.8 Billion.

What does this (half) prove? That file sharing is causing artists to lose money. While there are many fans out there that buy the physical CD’s, there are more people who would rather just download.
