Last February DJ and producer nujabes died in a tragic car accident, cutting him off in the prime of his career.  In order to commemorate the life of the great musician, various artists are coming together to make a tribute album to him titled “Modal Soul Classics II dedicate to… nujabes.”

The album, due out this October, was started by the artists friend Uyama Hiroto.  Uyama gathered up musicians who missed nujabes such as clammbon with yamazaki, toe, EMANCIPATOR, and FIVE DEEZ.  Toru Hashimoto (popular urban music producer) also contributed to the liner notes.  They were all close friends of nujabes and would like to keep his music alive even though he has passed away.  The actual track list and specifics will be announced later.

The groups have also planned a memorial show for nujabes that will take place on August 14th in Tokyo.  The event will be recorded and released on Uyama Hiroto’s “Homeward Journey” analogue record.

Nujabes was truly one of the greats of Japanese dance and urban music and he is obviously much missed.  Hopefully even more projects will be announced to commemorate the life of this great producer in the future.
