Actor Shun Oguri will star as Alex in the novel "A Clockwork Orange" by Anthony Burgess, on stage. This is the first time that the novel has ever been adapted in Japan. The most famous adaption of this novel is Stanley Kubrick's film version in 1971.
Previous notions have been planned to have "A Clockwork Orange" in Japan but HoriPro (the company doing the production) couldn't find anyone to play the main role, Alex. It wasn't until Shun's acting in "Crows Zero" and the play "Caligula," that HoriPro found it's Alex.
"Ever since I first saw the movie when I was in junior high, and to be honest the beginning startled me," said Oguri. He also noted that he did want to work on stage, and when the opportunity presented itself he took it.
For the Japanese version Oguri is hoping to be involved with the stage production.
