GIRL NEXT DOOR provides birdman contest with theme
Lots of groups perform theme songs for television dramas, but dance music group GIRL NEXT DOOR is certainly stepping outside the box to provide the theme song for this year’s “Iwatani Special Choujinkan Contest 2010.”
The Choujinkan is the Japanese version of the Birdman Rally competition where people make their own gliders and human powered aircraft to see how far they can fly. Yomiuri TV started televising the Choujinkan competition back in 1977 because it represented individuals following their dreams, and it has been popular ever since.
This will be the first time since the birth of the show that it will have a theme song though, and GIRL NEXT DOOR will sing the song, “Kaze no Capsule“, which is a fun track and will tentatively be on their upcoming triple A-side release of “Ready to be a lady / Kaze no Capsule / Shiawase no Hakari.”
The Choujinkan contest will air on September 24th at 7 PM on Yomiuri TV. Fans should definitely tune in to see a very different kind of contest and to hear GIRL NEXT DOOR’s new track.
