[Update] Performances from the 52nd Japan Record Awards

On December 30th, the 52nd Japan Record Awards were held at the New National Theatre in Tokyo, just as they have been since 2004.

S/mileage win “Best New Artist” and perform “Yume Miru Fifteen”

S/mileage stormed onto the Japanese music scene with their major debut single release of “Yume Miru Fifteen” back on May 26th, so it’s only appropriate that after winning the “Best New Artist” award at the 52nd Japan Record Awards that they would perform the song.

EXILE perform their “Japan Record Award” winning song “I Wish For You”

EXILE won their third consecutive “Japan Record Award” with the track “I Wish For You” at the 52nd Japan Record Awards tonight, matching Hamasaki Ayumi’s dominance from 2001 to 2003.

AKB48 brings down the house with “Beginner” at the 52nd Japan Record Awards

Japan’s most popular girl group, AKB48, had a memorable year in 2010 with their 18th single, “Beginner”.

Starting on October 27th, the single sold 827,000 copies in just its first week – two weeks later, on November 10th, the group acquired the “Million” certification mark from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ). It was the first time any AKB48 song had ever achieved the “Million” mark, and we’re sure that they’re capable of doing it again.

Shoujo Jidai (SNSD) performs “Gee” at the 52nd Japan Record Awards

The ladies of Shoujo Jidai (SNSD) remastered their hit single “Gee” for their Japanese fanbase, and it became an immediate hit on various music charts.

Taking only three weeks to surpass the 100,000 sales mark, the girl group was bestowed with a ‘Gold’ disk from the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) last month.

Big Bang croons with “Tell Me Goodbye” at the 52nd Japan Record Awards

Big Bang gained a hot response in Japan back in June with their single, “Tell Me Goodbye”, and though they’ve only promoted intermittently, the popularity of their single secured them a nomination for the prestigious “Japan Record Award” at the 52nd Japan Record Awards.

Recently, the CEO of their agency back in Korea assured their Japanese fans that Big Bang would promote more aggressively in the new year, with a two-month tour scheduled for May.

Aoi Yu passes the baton to the new cast of JRA’s CM

Japan Racing Association’s (JRA:Horse Racing)  popular “CLUB KEIBA”  CM series, which stars Sato Koichi, Aoi Yu, Koike Teppei, and Oizumi Yo, will renew its CM series with new cast members starting in 2011.

Yuzu releases PV for their upcoming single “HeyWa”!

Popular folk duo, Yuzu, have announced their plans to release their first single of 2011 on January 19th. Titled, ”HeyWa (Hey和)”, the title song was also used a campaign theme for “Hatachi no Kenketsu” by the Japanese Red Cross Society.

Recently, the duo has released the full PV for the upcoming single through TOY’S FACTORY’s official YouTube channel.  Check it out below!

Remioromen reveals their PV for “Your Song”

Rock band Remioromen will be releasing a new single on January 18th titled, “Your Song”, but to tide fans over until the release date, the boys have unveiled the PV for their new song.

“Your Song” has been chosen as the ending theme song for the upcoming drama, “Saijou no Meii” which will start on January 10th.

Wada Akiko involved in a car accident en route to Kohaku rehearsal

On December 29th, singer Wada Akiko became involved in a car accident while heading for the “Kohaku Uta Gassen” rehearsals.

According to Sanspo, Wada’s car stopped at a traffic light, but a car collided with hers from behind. Wada sustained injuries to her neck and waist area, and her driver and the manager received minor injuries as well.
