allkpop

On May 4th, the film "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" held a press meeting for the Japanese media in Los Angeles, where the film's star Johnny Depp met with retired Japanese national team soccer player Nakata Hidetoshi.

The press conference was held exclusively for the Japanese media due to sympathy over the March 11 Tohoku earthquake. Depp commented, "We are praying that everyone family and friends are alright. It is a difficult time in Japan, but we the Pirates staff will also do what we can to help Japan's relief efforts."

Although the atmosphere was tense initially, Depp brightened the mood by joking, "I'm sorry we couldn't hold the meeting in Japanese." Afterwards, Nakata, who has been invited to the world premier of the film on the 7th, shook hands with Depp.

Nakata commented, "I was a big fan of this film, and I really wanted to meet Johnny-san, so I'm really happy today."

On a banner made by the film's staff, Depp wrote, "With utmost respect and all my support always." Nakata wrote the message, "Until the day when further development is made!!" The banner will be traveling with the film production team to the Russian and UK premieres, before it is delivered to the Japanese premiere on the 17th along with messages from all over the world.
