We recently reported that FUNKY MONKEY BABYS had chosen professional tennis player Matsuoka Shuzo as the face of their upcoming single, "Sore demo shinjiteru".
Today it was reported that the face of FMB's other upcoming single, "Love Letter", will be none other than Ueda Shinya, one half of comedic duo Cream Stew. Upon being chosen to grace the famous FMB "face jacket", Ueda said happily, "I'm gonna keep this a secret from [Cream Stew partner] Arita until they put my face on a billboard."
"Love Letter" is a refreshing love song that "tells the story of a first love, combining happiness with sadness and pain". FMB wanted "a man with a pure and honest heart" to represent the song, "like the main character of the song who can't bring himself to send a love letter". When they appeared with Ueda on a previous TV show, they felt that he "acts tough on the outside but on the inside maintains the passion of a teenage boy", and offered him the cover.
The music video also features Ueda as himself. He meets with staff members in order to make plans for a new TV show, and when they ask him about his first love, he recalls the bittersweet memories of his past. His acting is impressive, as instead of the sharp and biting character Ueda usually shows on television, he shows a side of himself that is nice, and a bit shy. This marks his first appearance in a music video.
Additionally, "Love Letter" is the CM song for Shiseido's "SEA BREEZE" commercials starring Kawashima Umika.
Both of FMB's upcoming singles will be available for Chaku-Uta download on June 1st, and "Love Letter" will be released in stores on June 8th.
