Amami Yuki to narrate documentary on recovery efforts for disaster-stricken areas
On July 23rd, it was announced that actress Amami Yuki will narrate a BS Asahi documentary program aimed at increasing awareness of recovery efforts in areas most devastated by the Tohoku earthquake. The program, called “Yomigaire! Tohoku ~Tsunagaru Kotokara, Hajimeyo~”(“Recover! Tohoku ~Let’s Start Off From Where We Can Relate~”) will air on the 30th.
Amami, who personally visited the disaster areas herself, described her aspirations for the program with, “Through this role as a narrator, I want to convey to the viewers the victims’ feelings as well as my own about these places in this program. If we can find a way to connect with those victims who are working hard to recover from the disaster, there is nothing happier than that.”
This is a monthly program created with the collaboration of four local TV channels in the Tohoku area: Higashi Nippon Broadcasting (Miyagi Prefecture), Aomori Asahi Broadcasting (Aomori Prefecture), Iwate Asahi TV (Iwate Prefecture), and Fukushima Broadcasting (Fukushima Prefecture). There will be four episodes in total, with each episode featuring one of the four prefectures of Tohoku. The program will focus on the aftermath of the disaster, the people affected, various ideas of recovery from the different regions, and other suggestions to support the area’s recovery.
The first episode will focus on Miyagi Prefecture, particularly on the aftermath in different cities like Kesennuma and Minamisanriku. Although the exact broadcast date is unknown at this time, it will air at 7PM JST. The second episode will feature Aomori, the third on Iwate, and the fourth on Fukushima. The final broadcast will air sometime in October.
