Drama Prime Time Report – July 01st~03rd
Ashida Mana and Suzuki Fuku say good bye, at least for this season.
This past weekend the last three of four spring dramas came to an end, but only one of them said farewell – or rather ’see you again’ – with a bang.
The high school restaurateurs of “Kokosei Restaurant” on Saturday evenings ended with a weak rating below 10%, but at least they were able to keep the season-average above the mark with 10.7%.
On Sunday, Ashida Mana’s and Suzuki Fuku’s “Marumo no Okite” heavily influenced the ratings of the whole Sunday evening. First of all NHK’s taiga drama “Gou” had to suffer fairly low ratings due to the “Marumo no Okite” variety special on Fuji TV, hosted by Ashida and Suzuki themselves. TBS also was strong during the 8pm slot, because of their “Hono no Taiikukai” special.
At 9pm, the extended final of “Marumo no Okite” achieved outstanding viewer ratings of 23.9%. Those ratings made it the second most successful drama of the spring season. It needed ratings above 20% to snatch away the second place from “BOSS 2” and fortunately there was no real competition that could have hindered its success. The highest rating recorded during the 90min runtime was 27.5%. Moreover, Fuji TV announced that the drama will get a drama special, so it’s not really a final farewell yet. By the way, a certain AKB48 member along with some ‘ikemen’ made a cameo appearance towards end of the drama…
The other programs didn’t really suffer bad ratings in this time slot, because not that many people tuned in to NTV that day, at least compared to last week’s final of “JIN“.
Due to the extended runtime of “Marumo no Okite”, Fuji TV also had to air their news and information program “Mr. Sunday” 30 minutes later, affecting the ratings of the shows that air around 11pm. Therefore it’s no surprise that TV Asahi’s drama “Asuko March!” even lost viewers for its final episode. The overall average comes down to 5.96%, making it the weakest performance in that relatively young drama time slot so far.
