Drama Prime Time Report – November 4th~6th

Will he find 'that woman'? ("Kasha" - TV Asahi)
Here is the Friday and weekend edition of the the Drama Prime Time Report, highlighted by a Saturday full of mysteries and monsters.
Friday was a fairly normal day in terms of ratings. As expected, “Sengyou Shufu Tantei” (TBS) was able to recover from last week’s blow and at least gained 0.8%. Unfortunately, it didn’t jump back above the 10% mark, but Fukada Kyoko is already quite used to much lower ratings. The next couple of episodes should give a nice indication of how the average rating at the end of the season will turn out, unless the drama suddenly loses or gains a large number of viewers.
The ratings for the other Friday dramas weren’t that positive this week. “11 Nin mo Iru!” (TV Asahi) lost a lot of ground again with the third episode (-1.5% -> now 7.9%). It’s a charming drama with an even more charming cast, but it doesn’t really bring excitement to people with hardly any anticipation for the next episode. A typical, maybe too ‘normal’, home and family drama.
Midnight drama “Kaito Royale” (TBS) had a great start last week, therefore the loss of 0.7% doesn’t look too serious at the moment. A rating of 3.5% is nothing to be ashamed about and still above the average rating of previous dramas in that time slot.

"Sengyou Shufu Tantei" / "11 Nin mo Iru!" / "Kaito Royale"
Saturday is a heavenly like day for drama fans. Four different dramas, drama specials, and two-hour-dramas competed for viewers at the 9:00 pm time slot.
Most people, knowing the amazing novel its based on, were attracted to the two-hour-drama “Kasha” (starring Kamikawa Takaya and Sasaki Nozomi) on TV Asahi. A whooping 17.0% watched that show, not leaving much room for the only regular drama, “Yokai Ningen Bem” (NTV).
Fortunately the monsters of “Yokai Ningen Bem” didn’t shy away from the tough competition and only lost 1.3%. With 15.8% this episode and a current average of 17.27%, the drama is still in the top four this season. However, it’s closely followed by “Nazotoki wa Dinner no Ato de“, whose ratings are much more stable. Moreover there are probably going to be a few more difficult Saturdays ahead, making it difficult for this drama to compete with all the other great dramas this season.
If those two shows didn’t spark your interest, how about Mitani Koki’s spin-off drama special “Suteki na Kakushidori” (Fuji TV), or the medical/mystery two-parter “Shimei to Tamashii no Limit” (NHK), starring Ishihara Satomi and Hayami Mokomichi?
Obviously, most viewers were already taken by the two shows mentioned before, but that doesn’t mean that they didn’t have some fun and exciting moments to offer. You better check out all four of them!

"Kasha" / "Yokai Ningen bem" / "Shimei to Tamashii no Limit"
A lot of people sat in front of their TV on Sunday, resulting in a lot of high ratings. Especially at around 8:00 pm it was difficult to find shows that were only watched by less than 10%.
Of course, the volleyball match between the women of Japan and South Korea on Fuji TV attracted a lot of viewers, but also the other variety shows were surprisingly strong. Taiga drama “Gou” (NHK) wasn’t one of those surprises, but at least it didn’t lose any viewers at all compared to last week.
At 9:00 pm, the volleyball match was nearing its end and viewers weren’t able to tune in to other shows, such as “Nankyoku Tairiku” (TBS) or the TV premiere of the movie “Akunin” (TV Asahi). Especially the former has yet to break its fall and reclaim the top, but it looks like that won’t happen until it gets closer the final climax.
“Boku to Star no 99 Nichi” (Fuji TV) had to give up its time slot to the volleyball match and aired almost one hour later than usual. The ratings went down slightly with the late starting time, as it dropped from 9.7% to 9.0%. However, the drop is too low to determine whether that was really the result of the late time slot.
“Ore no Sora: Keiji-Hen” (TV Asahi) also got delayed due to the long runtime of “Akunin”. It aired around midnight and lost 1.4% compared to last week. In this case, after looking at the previous ratings, it’s much more obvious that this one probably lost 1.0% only because it had to air later than usual.

You can check out the ratings of all the fall dramas below the daily report.

NHK, TBS and TV Tokyo usually don’t disclose the ratings for their shows on a regular basis, therefore they won’t be included in the list below. Certain dramas or drama specials that aired on those channels and might lack ratings are still included with a ??.?% rating. This doesn’t mean that the ratings were too low to recorded.
Improvements and declines will be illustrated with the use of several icons. The colors and the numbers indicate how much the ratings have changed.
An orange color means almost no change, while a red color means the ratings dropped, and a green color means the ratings improved.
