Japan Box Office Report – January 21st/22nd

"Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs. Space Sheriff Gavan" / "Always: Sunset on Third Street 3" / "Robo-G"
“ALWAYS 3” came in on top, followed by “Sentai Gokaiger” at number two. The Korean adaption of “Kimi wa Petto” opened in at sixth, while “Johnny English” maneuvered in at seventh place.
As expected, the final movie in the popular “ALWAYS” trilogy, “ALWAYS San-chome no Yuhi ‘64” (English title: “Always: Sunset on Third Street 3“), came out on top after its first weekend. With ticket sales of 421,274, it was seen by more than double the amount of people than last week’s top position, “Robo-G“.
Translated into money, “ALWAYS 3″ made a revenue of 555,663,750 Yen (7.15 million USD). It also exceeded the opening weekend of the second movie, the second movie went on for a total gross of 4,560,000,000 Yen (58.67 million USD). A similar result is expected for the third movie.
Second place, “Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger vs. Space Sheriff Gavan: The Movie“, was seen by 159,227 people and grossed 160,750,000 Yen (2.06 million USD). This one also exceeded the previous ‘Super Sentai VS’ movie, “Tensou Sentai Goseiger vs. Shinkenger“, by around 14%.
“Robo-G” fell down to the third place, but still managed to break through the threshold of 500,000,000 Yen (6.43 million USD) during its first nine days in theaters. Add one zero and you get the current total revenue of “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol” (64.33 million USD).
Meanwhile, “friends Mononoke Jima no Naki“, which dropped out of the top ten, also gets to celebrate the achievement of mobilizing a total of 1,000,000 people (1,400,000,000 Yen / 18.01 million USD).
Furthermore, “You’re My Pet” and “Johnny English Reborn” opened in at six and seven respectively. A decent result, considering that both only opened at around 100 screens nationwide.
