Drama Prime Time Report – February 6th~February 9th

After a week of sorrow follows a week of happiness. At least eleven out of the seventeen dramas that air from Monday to Thursday managed to record higher ratings than last week, but of course that doesn’t mean much because of how deep the hole was last week.

‘Lucky Seven‘ (Fuji TV) seems to have settled between 15% and 16% now. Even its average rating dropped below the 16% mark this week. Therefore everything was set for Tuesday drama ‘Strawberry Night‘ (Fuji TV) to increase its lead, but instead it decided to tease the Monday drama by showing its tail again. This week the episodes of both dramas ended up below 16%.

Meanwhile, ‘Hungry‘ (Fuji TV) once again served more viewers this Tuesday, resulting in a surprising increase of 2.4%. However, it’s average rating wasn’t affected much due to its strong start and one-two very weak episodes. The rest of the Tuesday dramas pretty much repeated last week’s result, which isn’t exactly a good thing for the two remaining pre-midnight dramas.

TV Asahi’s Wednesday drama ‘Aibou season10‘ probably won’t pick up the pace again this season anymore, except maybe for the final case. One hour later, NTV’s detective-baby-tag team of ‘Dirty Mama‘ quickly recovered from last week’s slump and recorded the highest surge of this week so far with 2.7%. It’s as if the single-digit rating from last week never happened.

Most of the Thursday dramas ended on a positive note this week. ‘Kasouken no Onna 11‘ (TV Asahi) improved by 1.2%, ‘Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata‘ (TBS) by 0.7%, and ‘Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi‘ (Fuji TV) by 1.2%. Of course the average rating of ‘Saikou no Jinsei no Owarikata‘ is still on a free fall due to its strong start, but at least it’s still alive after two big nosedives.

It’s direct competition, ‘Seinaru Kaibutsutachi‘ (TV Asahi), is falling fast. Another plunge of 1.3% now dropped the 09:00 pm drama on the level of a good 11:00 pm drama. Looking at the average ratings, it’s already 0.7% behind this season’s strongest 11:00 pm drama and even has been beaten by one of NHK’s typically weak mini drama specials. In other words, ‘Seinaru Kaibutsutachi‘ currently has the worst average rating of all prime time dramas this season.

Out of all the mentioned dramas, ‘Hungry!‘, ‘Saigo Kara Nibanme no Koi‘, and ‘Dirty Mama‘ were the only ones that actually improved their average ratings.
