It was revealed today that the movie �Akunin�, which stars award-winning actress Fukatsu Eri and actor Tsumabuki Satoshi, might have a Hollywood remake.

Distributor Toho said that they did receive an offer last week and that the story can be done in a setting outside Japan. It was further mentioned that they were to discuss details with the Western agency, such as the selection of direction and cast. Looks like a Hollywood remake is indeed on its way!

'Akunin' ('Villian') follows the dramatic relationship between a murder suspect (Tsumabuki) and his lover (Fukatsu), who met through an online dating site. Even though she's aware that he's a murder suspect, Fukatsu's character is unable to throw aside her relationship and decides to run away with him in order to try to live a life of love and intimacy. It's a psychological thriller with threads of �twisted romance and social critique woven through.

The film received an overwhelming popularity since the main actress, Fukatsu Eri, won an award at the prestigious 34th World Film Festival of Montreal for it.�Aside from opening in Japan, the movie will also be screened in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau within this year.
