Yamashita Keijiro, a member of the famous Rockabilly Sannin Otoko, passed away on January 5th at a hospital in Tokyo. He was 71 years old.
Yamashita was born in Tokyo and is the son of the famous comedic storyteller,Rakugo-ka.In 1956, Yamashita joined "Sons of Drifters" (a precursor band of the "Drifters") as a vocalist.
Two years later, at the first Westerns Carnival concert, he covered the hit song, "Diana", which propelled his career and brought him into the spotlight. Along withHirao Masaaki and Mickey Curtis, the three men came together as 'Rockabilly Sannin Otoko'.
Yamashita was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer last year in December, and he was hospitalized soon after.
He seems to have had quite the fulfilling life, and we wish him peace.
