"Mainichi Ka-san" to be shown in Hong Kong and Taiwan

It's been revealed that the film "Mainichi Ka-san" ("Everyday, Mother"), starring Koizumi Kyoko, will be shown in theatres in Hong Kong and Taiwan starting May 12th and 13th, respectively. In both cases, the film will be shown with Chinese subtitles.

The local posters for the film features an encouraging message regarding the 2011 Tohoku earthquake, and the first week revenue in Hong Kong will be donated to Japan for disaster relief.

The film is the live-action adaptation of a popular manga by Saibara Rieko, and is based on the author's actual life. The story follows mangaka Saibara (played by Koizumi) and her alcoholic husband Kamoshida (played by Nagase Masatoshi), through their divorce, reunion, and eventually, Kamoshida's death.

In Japan, the film has been playing in theatres since February 5th, and generating interest partly due to the fact that the two lead actors also used to be married to each other. �The film was a box office hit in Japan, drawing over 500,000 viewers.

In Hong Kong, "Mainichi Ka-san" will be shown in 1 theatre (Broadway Cinematheque), but in Taiwan, the film is being released in 17 movie theatres. The anime series based on the manga will start airing this month in Hong Kong, and has already started airing in Taiwan.
