Columbia Pictures to remake Downtown's Matsumoto Hitoshi's "Dai Nipponjin"

It's recently been announced that "Dai Nipponjin (Big Man Japan)",�Downtown's Matsumoto Hitoshi's debut movie as a director, will get a remake by Columbia Pictures.

The producer of the remake version will be Neal H. Moritz who is the founder of Original Film, and has produced many Hollywood movies, while the screenplay will be written by Phil Hay and Matt Manfredi.

"Dai Nipponjin" was released in Japan in 2007, and brought in about about 900,000 in attendance as well as�1.2 billion yen (~12 million dollars) in box office revenue. �The film was also shown at 20 film festivals and released at theaters in 26 cities in the United States with the title "Big Man Japan."

The film had received some offers for a remake and Columbia Pictures agreed to a deal this spring. �The details, including the cast and the release day, have not been decided yet.

Although Matsumoto will not be directing the movie, he will be on board in an advisory capacity.
