On June 25, NMB48, the sister group of AKB48 who cater to Osaka area fans, recently became "directors and shop owners for a day" at Osaka's Shinsaibashi-suji shopping district. The surprise appearance of their "hometown" idols delighted shoppers and tourists in the area, but the shopping district suddenly became chaotic as more than 1000 fans surrounded the idols, jostling them in the confusion.

In a flash, Osaka idol group NMB48 showed up at the Shinsai Bashisuji district, surprising early afternoon shoppers and sending the area into a panic.

As part of NMB48's 'Shinsaibashi ni, koi!!' ('Visit/Fall in love with Shinbashi!!') campaign with the shopping district, captain Yamamoto Sayaka (17), and member Watanabe Miyuki (17) were appointed as "directors for a day", while Yamada Nana (19) and three other members were appointed as "shop owners for a day".

That afternoon, the 6 idols had put on sashes declaring their "jobs" and set out for the shopping district. The first stop was retailer g.u., where Yamamoto addressed shoppers with the friendly reminder, "It's a very hot day today, so please don't forget to stay hydrated!"

Yamamoto, who placed 28th in the June 9 Senbatsu election, and the other local idols were welcomed by the shoppers. At once the people formed a throng, and the members found themselves surrounded by around 1000 fans. Ignoring the requests of security officials, fans took photos and videos of the group and several people pushed their way through the crowd to get a better look. It seemed like at any moment a serious accident could occur.

The idols had originally planned to stroll around the shopping district, but after judging it to be too dangerous, the plan was quickly canceled. After that, the idols visited retailers L.D.S., Megane no Miki, and Daimaru, but entered and exited through back entrances to avoid the crowds.

Event sponsors eventually mobilized around 100 security guards to monitor the "high alert situation", but fans continued to stick their hands past the safety ropes and barriers, touching and grabbing the idols as they walked past. One security guard who witnessed the uproar said, "It was really a dangerous situation".

Despite the chaotic crowd, the idols managed to keep smiling as they appealed to their hometown fans. When they visited Daimaru department store at the end of the tour, Watanabe commented, "It's really crowded, isn't it?", while Yamada paid the fans a great compliment: "I think I'm falling in love with Shinsaibashi".
