AKB48's Takahashi Minami attends handshake event in Taiwan!
On August 2nd, AKB48 member Takahashi Minami arrived in Taipei for a handshake event.
Takahashi arrived at Taiwan’s airport in the afternoon, where around 300 fans were waiting. Having an extremely short frame of only 148.5 cm (around 4’10”), the fans in the back of the crowd were forced to jump many times in order to get a glimpse of the tiny idol.
At the bookstore where the handshake event was held, around 1,500 fans came to meet Takahashi. There were some female fans who arrived in line up to 30 hours before the session and some male fans came with a huge ribbon; Takahashi’s trademark. The fans truly showed their devout love for their idol.
For this event, fans were told to buy 2,100 yen (~27 USD) worth of goods to be able to have a handshake with Takahashi. However, this past June fellow member Watanabe Mayu came to Taiwan and the goods only cost 1,100 yen (~14 USD). Several fans expressed their discontent at the increased price.
AKB48 opened up their official shop this past June and it has become quite popular. In addition to that, the girls will be opening a Café this coming October.
