It's been revealed that Takahashi Hiroshi's popular manga, "QP", will be getting a live-action drama adaptation by director Miike Takashi. Originally, the lead role was given to actor Takaoka Sousuke, but after receiving a request from Takaoka saying, "Please let me rest for awhile," the role was replaced with�Saito Takumi.

"QP" was serialized in the manga magazine, "Young King", from 1998 to 2000. The main character of the story is 'Ishida Kotori', who is known as 'QP', but the drama series will be based on his best friend, 'Azuma Ryo'.

Saito will play the role of 'Ryo', a strong character with blonde hair and a scars on his face, who has lost his voice from being shot by an underling from his former gang. He commented, "Visuals are the doorway to a role, so I hope to express the circumstances and foundation of a person with this kind of appearance. I am not skillful, nor am I able to 'act', so I hope to be consistent in 'existing', while utilizing the 30 years of Saito Takumi." Director Miike, who is very picky about Ryo's appearance, met with Saito several times to discuss the clothing and make-up. Saito had to bleach his hair twice for a convincing color.

Regarding his opportunity to work with director Miike's work, Saito stated, "When I was a student, I watched director's 'Fudou' and 'Full Metal Gokudo', and read his 'Kantoku Chuudoku'. I'm a fan of his. The scenes are gorgeous, filled with many things that represent Japan. I want to play this big role while not forgetting to have fun."

"QP" is scheduled to broadcast every late Wednesday nights at 12:59 AM from October 5th.
