On September 15th,SMAP held a press conferencein China prior to their very first overseas performance on the following day.

The press conference was held at theGreat Hall of the People in 'The Chongqing Hall', which is a special room that is used for meetings between national guests and Chinese officials.About 150 reporters from 100 local media agencies gathered at the hall, and showed their interest in the group.

The reporters asked various questions such as, "How have your thoughts changed from before and after the Tohoku Earthquake?" and "What do you think about China's friendship with Japan?"

Next year will mark 40 years of the restoration of diplomatic ties between China and Japan. Regarding this, member Kimura Takuya (38)commented, "It's almost 40 years since the friendship [got restored]. I would be pleased if this performance will be an advanced celebration."

Meanwhile, leader Nakai Masahiro (39) exhibited his thoughtfulness by turning to their translator and saying, "That reporter, he's had his hand raised the entire time. Shouldn't we call on him?".

After the hour-long press conference, the members of SMAP met with former foreign minister Tang Jiaxuan (73).Tang said to Nakai in Japanese, "For a long time you were the host for the 'Kohaku Uta Gassen'. I used to observe your face all the time." He also praised Kimura, saying, "You are very famous in China. You are very popular among women and you have a countless number of fans." All five members exchanged handshakes with Tang with a smile.

Nakai commented, "As our first overseas performance, we were very anxious, but thanks to everyone's thoughtfulness, we are relieved. We want this to be a successful live."
