AKB48 to get their own TV anime series

It's been revealed that popular idol group AKB48 will be getting their first anime series next spring!

The story will focus on 9 idol cadets who aim to become 'legendary idols'. The characters will be modeled after the top 8 members from AKB48's general elections, which include Maeda Atsuko and Oshima Yuko. The title and broadcasting station has not been revealed at this time.

The anime is an original story by Kawamori Shoji, who is known for the anime, "Macross". He expressed, "Combining�Japan's traditional animation, the latest CG techniques, and the idols' professional spirit, I want to deliver a moving work that will make people laugh, cry, and dance. I want to encourage the world. Please look forward to how the members and story entwine."

The voice cast for the 9 main characters will be chosen out of 200 girls from AKB48, SKE48, and NMB48. 30 girls will be chosen in the first round of auditions, and the results will be announced through a special website in mid-November. The final selection is scheduled to be held publicly, where they will select 9 girls who�show eagerness in voice acting in the future, and an excellent performance.

Not only will the 9 members voice act, but they will also be charge of the anime's theme song. There are also plans for a comic based on the anime's original draft.
