Idol group Fairies has been selected as the image character for 'Omotesando Illumination', and they attended the light-up event� on December 1st.

'Omotesando Illumination' is an annual event that lights up Tokyo at the end of the year. This year marks the first time that the event chose an image character in its 26-year history. Fairies appealed with their fresh and cheerful image, which fit well with the event's theme of "Sending out impression, energy, and smile to through Japan from Harajuku, Omotesando."

Member Ito Momoka said, "It's really an honor, and I am very happy! �Last year, I was passing by the avenue after the lesson thinking that it's beautiful."

Since most of the members aren't from the city, it was the first time for them to see the illuminations on Omotesando Avenue. Fujita Miria, who is from Osaka, said with awe, "It's impressive."

The girls also performed "HERO" (one of the title tracks from their upcoming single "HERO/Sweet Jewel") at the event.

In consideration of power conservation efforts, 'Omotesando Illumination' used less LED bulbs (reducing from 900,000 to about 650,000), and�illuminated�less Keyaki trees this year (153 trees to 96 trees). Moreover, they used the same colored lightbulbs as the illuminations in disaster-stricken Sendai, Miyagi to show their support. A collection box and message card were established at the site to further draw the communities together.

The illumination show will begin starting on December 2nd until January 3rd.
