On January 10th, AKB48 members Kashiwagi Yuki, Komori Mika, and Maeda Ami held a special handshake event in Shanghai, China, where enthusiastic fans lined up to meet their favorite idols.
The 1,300 people who attended the event were chosen out of approximately 4,000 fans who had applied. "I really felt that we had a lot of fans in China," said Kashiwagi, impressed by AKB48's popularity abroad.
"I love them because they have so many positive songs," gushed a 22-year-old Chinese fan excitedly. "If they were to have performances in China, I'd go no matter how expensive the tickets were."
As proof of AKB48's high popularity in China, fans from all over gathered to see the girls when they performed in China for the first time in Shanghai last year. "We'll definitely perform this year too if we can," said Kashiwagi.
