The team behind the upcoming comedic movie, "Robo-G", lead by singer and actor Mickey Curtis (alias Igarashi Shinjiro), went to Sugamo, Tokyo in order to pray for a successful run at the box office.

"Robo-G" is directed by Yaguchi Shinobu ("Water Boys", "Swing Girls", "Happy Flight") and along with Igarashi, also stars Yoshitaka Yuriko, Hamada Gaku, Kawai Shogo, and Kawashima Junya, who all attended the event dressed in kimonos.

The movie is about a new robot, 'Robo-G', that was developed by three employees (Hamada, Kawai & Kawashima) of a small electronics maker in order to get the company more exposure. Unfortunately, the robot gets destroyed shortly before it's unveiling to the public at a robotics expo, forcing the trio to actually put a real human (Igarashi) inside the robot structure. From then on, 'Robo-G' becomes more popular than they ever dreamed.

It was the first starring role for the 73-year-old Igarashi, who commented, "I'll work hard as a newcomer." However, wearing the metallic robot suit for the filming in this cold weather definitely wasn't an easy challenge. "Everyday I complained, 'Are you trying to kill me!?'"

Director Yaguchi immediately countered, "I was teased by the old man throughout the filming. Thanks for letting me finish it without any problems."

When they were talking about the 'Coming of Age Day' that was celebrated in Japan on the same day, Igarashi grinned and said, "Around this time it's rather difficult to get women out of the kimonos again."

Yoshitaka plays a female college student and robot otaku who falls in love with 'Robo-G' at first sight.

She commented with a sweet smile, "It's not one of the latest kind of robots, it has a more old-school atmosphere and looks really adorable. I think that, in some ways, it resembles the director."

Igarashi continued being very energetic, when one of Yoshitaka's hairpins fell into the back of her kimono. He tried to help her, but not without taking a peek. "I just saw a bit of your back", he said with a smile.

At the end of the event, Yoshitaka tried to appeal the movie to the mainly older people who are living in Sugamo: "I think that if many people are going to watch this movie, the number of healthy grandpas and grandmas will certainly increase and eventually lead to a much more cheerful Japan."

"Robo-G" will open in Japan at 278 screens on January 14th.
