Kyary Pamyu Pamyu takes over Harajuku, tops multiple iTunes charts

allkpop

On May 23rd, Kyary Pamyu Pamyu held an event titled "Pamyu Pamyu Kakumei in La Foret Harajuku" to celebrate the release of her first full album, "Pamyu Pamyu Revolution".

500 fans were invited through a raffle to participate in the event. Those attending were told to come dressed in their own "Kyary Pamyu Pamyu cosplay" to participate, so the crowd was full of men and women in the model-turned-singer's flashy and brilliant style. The event was also streamed live over YouTube Live for those who weren't able to attend the event in person.

When the curtain was raised, Yatsui Ichirou of Elecomic, who served as the MC for the day, stepped onto the stage and asked the crowd to say Kyary's name in order to start the performance. As the intro track to her new album "Pamyu Pamyu Revolution" played, Kyary finally appeared amid huge cheers from the audience. After performing her latest single "CANDY CANDY", she greeted her audience. "Hello everyone, I'm Kyary Pamyu Pamyu! Congrats on being the 500 people chosen!" she said with a smile. "Today I want to sing a lot, so even though our time here is short please have fun!" Kyary performed six songs total at the event, including her hit song "Tsukema Tsukeru".

Kyary's fashion for the day was a colorful, cubic dress patched together like a quilt. The dress was specially made for her when Kyary made the unusual request to her stylist, "I want to be Rubik's Cube person." The set was also created by 6%DOKIDOKI's manager Masuda Sebastian, who created the sets for her previous music videos "PONPONPON" and "Tsukema Tsukeru".

After her performance, the winner of the "Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Cosplay Grand Prix" was decided. Kyary, as the main judge of the event, told the crowd what she was looking for in the winner. The top five winners were then announced one by one, and were handed a prize from Kyary herself. The winner of the event received Candy Stripper (a Harajuku brand) goods, shoes, and other products chosen by Kyary, and was so moved by the gesture that she cried.

"Today, such fashionable people came to see me, and a set was put together for me, and that made it the best release day ever!" she commented with a satisfied smile at the end of the event.

The eccentric pop singer also made a post on her official blog later that day to celebrate the success of her first album. "Pamyu Pamyu Revolution" topped the Oricon Daily Album Chart for May 23rd, in addition to topping the iTunes Japan Overall Album Chart and the electronic music charts in America, France, and Belgium. "Thank you thank you thank you," she wrote in gratitude to her fans,"It's all thanks to you guys."
