The full trailer for the upcoming movie 'Nobou no Shiro' (English title: 'The Floating Castle') was recently revealed online and impressed with superb performances, a gigantic set, and a great theme song by Elephant Kashimashi.
'Nobou no Shiro' is an adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name by Wada Ryo and is based on true events that happened during the Sengoku period. It's a co-production of the two major movie distributors Toho and Asmik Ace and was co-directed by Inudo Isshin and Higuchi Shinji.
The story revolves around the keeper of the Oshi Castle named Narita Nagachika, who earned himself the unflattering nickname 'Nobou-sama' (good-for-nothing) for his clumsy personality. However, during one fierce siege, Narita and his army of 500 men manage to withstand against Toyotomi Hideyoshi and his massive army of 20,000 men.
'Nobou no Shiro' was already scheduled to open in cinemas on September 17th, 2011, but distributors deemed it inappropriate at the time due to the Great Tohoku Earthquake and therefore postponed its release to November 2nd, 2012. One of the highlights of the movie is the inundating of the Oshi Castle by the besiegers.
The protagonist Narita Nagachika wull be played by kyogen performer Nomura Mansai, who is starring in his first movie in eight years. Ichimura Masachika will have the honor of portraying Toyotomi Hideyoshi. Other characters will be played by an impressive cast including Eikura Nana, Sato Koichi, Narimiya Hiroki, Yamaguchi Tomomitsu, Kamiji Yusuke, Yamada Takayuki, Hira Takehiro, Suzuki Honami, Nishimura Masahiko, Hiraizumi Sei, Natsuyagi Isao, Nakahara Takeo, Maeda Gin, Nakao Akiyoshi, Ono Machiko, and child actress Ashida Mana.
The large-scale open-air set for the movie was constructed in Tomakomai, Hokkaido and is big enough to fit in 20 Tokyo Domes. 5,000 truckloads of 11-ton trucks of earth had to be used to create the set and over 4,000 extras were brought on for the filming.
