On July 20th, it was announced that two classic TV dramas from the 1970s and 1980s will be revived later this year.
One of the remakes will be 'Tokuso Saizensen', which is one of the best detective dramas of all time and had entertained TV viewers from 1977 until 1987. The other is the ultimate sexy action drama 'Playgirl', which had been on TV from 1969 until 1976. The remakes will be called 'Tokuso Saizensen 2012 ~ Bakuha 0.01 Byo Mae no Onna' and 'Playgirl 2012 ~ Rensa Yukai Satsujin wo Abake! Atsukute Erokute Yabai Mehyoutachi' respectively.
Both dramas will be airing around the same time in October on satellite network 'Toei Channel' and the cable network 'Family Gekijo', which will be followed by a crossover drama called 'Tokuso Saizensen x Playgirl 2012' in December.
The original 'Tokuso Saizensen' spawned a total of 508 episodes over ten years and featured stars such as the late Nitani Hideaki, Otaki Hideji, and Hongo Kojiro as members of the best special investigation unit the Metropolitan Police Department had to offer. The new cast will be made up of Hiraoka Yuta, Kamio Yu, RIKIYA, Satoi Kenta, Watanabe Ikkei, and a guest appearance of Asami Reina. The script was written by Nagasaka Hideka, who already wrote the scripts for more than 100 episodes of the original drama.
'Playgirl' reached a total of 276 episodes. The late Sawa Tamaki, Ou Ranfan, and Midori Mako managed to entertain the viewers with a great mix of sexy outfits and dangerous missions. The new Playgirls will be played by Sugimoto Yumi, Nagasawa Nao, Ozawa Maju, and Ito Kazue.
'Tokuso Saizensen x Playgirl 2012' will feature additional appearances of Yuge Tomohisa, Kuroda Fukumi, and Funaki Sachi.
