Sawamura Ikki to graduate from the role of Asami Mitsuhiko after 12 years

Sawamura Ikki (45) celebrated his 45th�birthday on July 10th. For 12 years, he acted as character Asami Mitsuhiko in drama series �Asami Mitsuhiko Series�, which was originally a series of detective novels penned by Uchida Yasuo. Sawamura will graduate from the role with the September 3rd broadcast of episode��Hashihaka Gensou�. Asami Mitsuhiko remains at 33 years old throughout the series and Sawamura commented about the tough task of portraying a character that doesn�t age, �Before I get too old and the audience finds my portrayal unconvincing, I want to complete this role.

From 1994 � 2000, actor Tatsumi Takuro (53)�took on the role of Asami Mitsuhito in the TBS version of the series for episodes 1- 13. In 2000, the baton was passed to Sawamura Ikki and he has been acting as Asami for 18 episodes, spanning a time span of 12 years.

Sawamura further expressed, �This work was my first turning point as an actor. Even though the producer told me to not get bothered with the age, I feel completed after 12 years of playing this character.

In this episode, returning actress and actor�Sakuma Yoshiko and Kazama Morio will play the characters of Asami�s mother and brother respectively. �The guest cast includes Kusabue Mitsuko, Matsubara Chieko, Kitamura Soichiro, and long-time friend of Sawamura, Megumi Toshiaki. Set in Nara, a town brimming with romantic history, this episode will be the last stage for Sawamura�s Asami Mitsuhiko.

Episode Synopsis:

Koike Takuro (Kitamura) is an aloof�archaeologist�who spent his entire life studying the� kingdom of Yamataikoku, which was a country that existed in Japan in 3rd�century AD. He was subsequently murdered and Mitsuhiko (Sawamura) investigates the murder together with a chief priest (Hidari Tonpei)'s daughter and a clerk (Shimizu Yuki) from the archeology center. Soon after, a bronze mirror, believed to be the key clue to Yamataikoku, is found by a junior archaeologist Maruoka (Satoi Kenta). Mitsuhiko elucidates hints of Koike�s past in his pursue of the truth. �At the same time, his mother(Sakuma)'s hidden love that she hid from her dead husband is closely tied to the clues towards unraveling this�mystery.
