It's been revealed that singer-songwriter Tortoise Matsumoto will be providing his new song "Muga Muchu" as the theme song for the robot contest, 'Robocon 2012'!
Matsumoto, who claims he loves 'Robocon', explained, "It's a theme song, but rather than saying 'do your best', I would like to do my best with them."
Now in its 25th year, 'Robocon' is a contest where students all over the world compete their technical skills and creative power with handmade robots. It's divided into 3 sections: "Kousen Robocon", "Daigaku Robocon", and "ABU Robocon" (Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union). The first competition for "Kousen" was held back in 1988, "Daigaku" in 1991, and "ABU" in 2002.
"Muga Muchu" is written, composed, and sung by Matsumoto himself. He says he's noticed a common feature in songwriting and robot building, "When making something, everything's the same. I sang those feelings as it is."
"Daigaku Robocon" will air on NHK Sougou on July 1st from 5:00 pm. Meanwhile, "ABU Robocon" will be broadcast sometime in September and "Kousen Robocon" will be shown in December.
