On August 9, it was revealed in the September issue of Bessatsu Shonen Magazine that Oshimi Shuzos unique manga Aku no Hana, which was nominated for the Manga Taishou 2012, will be adapted into an anime in 2013.
Director Nagahama Hiroshi, who directed the anime adaptations of Mushishi and Detroit Metal City, will direct the anime. Details are expected to follow in later issues of the magazine.
Aku no Hana began as a serial manga in Bessatsu Shonen Magazine in 2009, and volumes 1 6 of the comic have collectively sold 800,000 copies. The manga revolves around a boy, Kasuka Takao, who is caught stealing the gym clothes of a girl he likes by Nakamura Sawa, a girl disliked by everyone. In exchange for her silence, he enters into a contract and takes on unreasonable demands that cannot be understood through common sense. Initially, Takao thinks the contract is agonizing, but he begins to develop different feelings.
