On may 31st, actor Fujiwara Tatsuya (31) held a press conference, and announced that he would be getting married to his non-celebrity girl friend (34) within the year.
Dressed in a black suit, Fujiwara reported with a smile, "Though this is a private matter, I would like to make an announcement to the fans that I am getting married this year to a woman who I've been dating for 9 years."
Reportedly, Fujiwara met the woman through a common acquaintance back in the summer of 2004, and they began dating shortly after.
Regarding his decision on the marriage, he commented, "It's good timing as this year would be the 10th year since we started dating. She supported me during my hard times with acting and filming, so I thought it is the time (for marriage)." He also spoke about the past 9 years, "For me, it was a blink of the eye. I'm grateful to her for staying with somebody like me for this long."
According to Fujiwara, they've already been living together for the last 6 years. "She is a modest and kind person. She is a woman who has always stayed by my side, and supported me."
When asked who she looks like, he answered, "I can't think of anybody who resembles her. She is more like a small animal, kind of like a meerkat. I wonder if she would get angry that I said that."
Regarding their future baby, he revealed that they would leave it to the course of nature.
He also said that he already gave her an engagement ring, but hasn't proposed to her officially. He spoke bashfully about when he went to greet her parents, "They accepted me saying, 'we understand.' I was happy, but a sense of responsibility also started arising at the same time."
The couple have not decided the exact day to register their marriage, as Fujiwara said, "Her birthday is in the summer, but this is not something we need to rush, so we'll just decide while discussing with each other."
Fujiwara was appointed for the lead role for theatre director Ninagawa Yukio's stage play "Shindokumaru" when he was 15 years old, making his acting debut. He is also known for starring in movies like "Battle Royale" (2000) and "Death Note" (2006).
