On March 25th, get ready for Asia's most anticipated night of glitz�and glamour as the 9th Asian Film Awards (AFA) celebrates another year of cinematic�excellence. Featuring a spectacular gathering of the region's hottest celebrities and�iconic filmmakers, the 9th AFA will be held at The Venetian, Macau to commemorate�the occasion with unprecedented grandeur and prestige.
The 9th AFA recognizes and celebrates outstanding achievement across 14 categories�
with a pool of 74 nominations representing 42 films from 8 countries across Asia.�
This year, Japan dominates the awards as the country with the most films nominated�
composing of 11 different films nominated for 14 different awards. Amongst these�films, The Light Only Shines There�(Soko nomi nite Hikari Kagayku), Japan's submission for�the Oscars, has been nominated for three major categories, including "Best Film",�
"Best Supporting Actress", and "Best Screenwriter". At the same time, internationally�
renowned director Tsukamoto Shinya has been nominated for the "Best�Director" for Fires On The Plain (Nobi).�
Satoh Takeru, well-known Japanese actor for the internationally-famous�action series Rurouni Kenshin, and Kase Ryo�of Korean�production Hill of Freedom�(Jiyugaoka de) has been nominated for "Best Actor" this�year, competing with major Asian names such as Ethan Ruan, Choi Min-sik, and Sean�Lau.�
At the same time, renowned actress Miyazawa Rie�has been�nominated for "Best Actress" for her performance in Pale Moon (Kami no Tsuki).�
Founded by the Tokyo International Film Festival, Hong Kong�International Film Festival, and Busan International Film Festival, AFA represents the�highest caliber of events in Asian film industry. Past winners include Kitano Takeshi�and Koreeda�Hirokazu for "Best Director", Motoki Masahiro�for "Best Actor", Watanabe Makiko for "Best Supporting�
