On March 14, South Korean actor Bae Yong Joon, fondly called Yon-sama by Japanese fans, donated 1 billion won / 72 million yen (~$900,000 USD) for disaster relief in Japan.
The money was given to the head of the Japan Tourism Agency, who will distribute it to organizations involved in the earthquake/tsunami relief effort.
On the same day, the star posted a message to the victims in the disaster on his official website, saying "I am glued in front of the TV as I'm worried about the safety of all the victims ... It pains me [that aftershocks are continuing]." He also added, "I will be thinking about the best way I can help [with the relief effort]."
