At the beginning of July, Japanese rock star YOSHIKI (of X-Japan fame) held a special event at CLUB NOKIA in Los Angeles to unveil his new foundation, "YOSHIKI FOUNDATION AMERICA." The foundation will work to help use music to better the lives of children across the world affected by disease or natural disasters. Donations were accepted at the event to go directly to the new charity organization.
The event was quite the star studded show, with people such as Grammy Foundation President Neil Portnow and American comic book creator Stan Lee in attendance. Stan Lee and YOSHIKI talked about their close friendship and even revealed that they have a special project in the works.
Nearly 2,000 American X Japan fans gathered at the hall for the event. For the excited crowd, X Japan took the stage and sang a brand new song titled "Born to be Free." This was the first time the song had ever been performed for fans. X Japan also used this as an opportunity to film for the music video for the new song. They ended up singing "Born to be Free" four times for the crowd and by the fourth time it was performed the fans knew the lyrics and were enthusiastically singing along with the band.
YOSHIKI and X Japan are preparing for their upcoming activities in the United States and will be performing a famous music festival Lollapalooza in August.
