Actress Koike Eiko (29) and her husband Sakata Wataru (37) have filed a lawsuit alongside Koike�s management agency against the owners of the Sports Hochi newspaper. The newspaper is facing libel charges for an article published in December that tarnished the couple�s reputation.
The article claimed that due to Sakata�s large debt, Koike was on the verge of filing a divorce. Sakata completely denied the rumor and continued managing his restaurant � the rumoured source of debt.
With the first hearing will taking place on Tuesday, the plaintiffs are demanding 280 million yen for damages.
