Ayumi Hamasaki's latest maxi single "L" seized the #1 spot on the Oricon weekly chart, becoming the 25th consecutive #1 single since "Free&Easy" in 2002.Ayu now holds the female artist's record for the most #1 singles sold, in both the solo and group categories.
Previously, Ayu tied with singerMatsuda Seiko, who reigned over the Oricon chart with 24 singles in a row from 1980 to 1988. With "L"s success, however, Ayu was able to take the title from Matsuda Seiko, and simultaneously top her own personal best after 22 years in the music scene.
Ayu commented, "I'm surprised and honored at the same time. It's all thanks to the fans who have supported each and every single that I kept putting my heart in."
Congratulations Ayu!
