On May 15th, AKB48 finally held their first regular theater performance at *SCAPE in Singapore. As it was their debut performance, they had two concerts; one in the afternoon and one in the evening. Around 1,200 local fans cheered excitedly as the 16-member �Singapore Senbatsu� girls performed 15 of their hit songs, including �Beginner� and �Ponytail to Shushu�.
AKB48 appeared in Singapore last year for the following events: �Animation Festival Asia� (November) and �Singapore Game, Toy and Comic Convention� (December). However, this is the group�s first �regular theater performance�.
The day before the concert, AKB48�s official Singapore shop was launched.� This is their second official overseas shop, the first being in Hong Kong. In commemoration of the shop�s opening, AKB48 held a handshake event for more than 500 fans, some coming from as far as Indonesia and Malaysia.
Member Miyazaki Miho commented, �This was my first time coming to Singapore and I was really surprised at all the people who knew about AKB48. I want more and more people from various countries to support us, so we�ll do our best!�. Iwasa Misaki also shared, �There were a lot of Japanese people in Singapore who also came to see us. I want to give energy to all the Japanese people who are doing their best throughout the world too.�
There will be two regular theater performances per month in Singapore not just for AKB48, but for their sister groups�SKE48 and SDN48,as well. On May 29th, AKB48 will have a performance, June 10th will be SDN48, and June 26th will be AKB48 again.
