It was revealed on May 12th that actress Nagasawa Masami and V6's Okada Junichi have been cast in Studio Ghibli's upcoming feature, "Kokuriko-zaka Kara".
Set in post-WWII Yokohama, "Kokuriko-zaka Kara" is the story of two high school students who bond over the conflict surrounding an old, historical building. Nagasawa will play the protagonist, 16-year old Matsuzaki Umi, while Okada will play her love interest, 17-year old Kazama Shun.
This will be the first time Nagasawa attempts voice-acting in a full-length animated film. The actress commented, "I want to work carefully and calmly so that I can express Umi-chan's inner strength properly."
Okada, who voice-acted in Ghibli's "Tales from Earthsea" in 2006, commented, "I want to act with all my strength, so that I can be of even a little help to a Ghibli work that people will want to watch forever."
The voice recording for the film will start in earnest in the middle of this month. Director Miyazaki Goro stated, "I've worked with Okada-kun once before and I trust him. I chose Nagasawa-san based on a hunch, but it was a great choice. Everything's going well."
"Kokuriko-zaka Kara" will be released in theatres on July 16th.
