On June 17th, Studio Ghibli announced that they will start making movies without using nuclear power at the suggestion of director Miyazaki Hayao himself. They unfurled a large banner from the company roof to display their newly implemented goal to the public.
According to Studio Ghibli, Miyazaki wanted to declare their belief with earnest feelings.
Following the conclusion of the press conference for"Kokuriko Saka Kara", Miyazaki thanked the people in the front line by stating, Right now, Japan may be in a distressed state, but I think it would be worthwhile to take the time to make this island return to its former glory.
When Fukushima promoted the safety of the Fukushima Dai-ni Nuclear Power Plant last year, Studio Ghibli denied being affiliated with the people who circulated and sold their character merchandise, such as My Neighbor Totoro, to further promote the safety of the nuclear power plant.
