On August 14th, AKB48’s sister group NMB48 held a handshake event at Intex Osaka and made a surprise announcement about their second single!
The girls revealed that their new single will be released on October 19th. Furthermore, in addition to the 13 members from the first generation, another three members from the second generation were selected to become the Senbatsu members who will sing their upcoming single.
The Senbatsu members include Team N’s Ogasawara Mayu, Kadowaki Kanako, Kishino Rika, Kinoshita Haruna, Kotani Riho, Kondo Rina, Jonishi Kei, Shiroma Miru, Fukumoto Aina, Yamada Nana, Yamamoto Sayaka, Yoshida Akari, and Watanabe Miyuki.
Meanwhile, Jo Eriko, Yogi Keira, and Yagura Fuuko were chosen from the second generation. The three second generation members were surprised when they saw their names on the large screen, and started hugging each other with sheer joy. Many fans in the venue cheered and gave a big round of applause for the trio.
NMB48, who recently debuted with their first single “Zetsumetsu Kurokami Shoujo”, gained a lot of attention and headlines by ranking first on the Oricon Weekly Single Charts, selling 218,000 copies in their first week of sales alone. The title of the second single has yet to be announced.
Going back to the three new Senbatsu members, they each expressed their thoughts and goals for their future as part of NMB48.
Jo stated, “I am extremely happy. During the handshaking event, many of you said to me to ‘Do your best’ and ‘Take the center position’, so I will do my best not to lose to the 1st generation members.” She added, “Although the song has not been determined yet, I will do my best to top the Oricon Charts with the addition of the three of us.”
Yogi commented, “During the announcement, I was put into a state of panic and thought, ‘What shall I do?’. But since I was chosen, I will do my best to not let everyone down.” She continued, “Although we, as second generation members, are still inexperienced, the three of us will grow over time and be representatives of the second generation. We will do our best for the rest of the second generation members as well.”
Yagura expressed, “I was not expecting to be chosen at all, so while thinking about how amazing this is, my name was projected and I panicked. I was so surprised that I felt that time had stopped. But, at the same time, I felt a surge of happiness and that I should do my best and aim higher. I am extremely happy.” She further expressed, “I want to do my best so that many people will hear and starting singing our songs.”
Congratulations to these three earnest ladies!
