Exciting news for Japanese film fans in Toronto! It's been revealed that Studio Ghibli's animated film, "Kokuriko-zaka Kara", will be shown at the 36th Toronto International Film Festival this September as part of the 'Contemporary World Cinema' category.
The Toronto International Film Festival is one of the most notable film festivals in the world. Although it is non-competitive, it carries 'The People's Choice Award' for the best film, as voted by the viewers.
Studio Ghibli will be joined by other Japanese films, such as "Himizu", a movie adaptation directed by Sono Shion from Furuya Minoru's hit manga series. TIFF-goers will also get to see Ishii Katsuhito's "Smuggler -Omae no Mirai wo Hakobe", Amir Naderi's "CUT", and Tsukamoto Shinya's "KOTOKO".
While all the titles mentioned above did well in box offices back home, Studio Ghibli's entry is generating much buzz due to their solid international reputation. Studio Ghibli has been flourishing ever since "Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi" (or "Spirited Away") won the Academy Award for 'Best Animated Feature' at the 75th Academy Awards.
Will you be going to see these films at the Toronto International Film Festival?
