Actor Kitano Takeshi will team up with Takakura Ken once again for their upcoming movie, "Anata e" ("To You").

It's been 27 years since Kitano and Takakura last co-starred together in a film. "Yasha" (1985). For Takakura, it's going to be the first movie in six years, and the 205th movie overall in his impressive career.

Kitano, who will be playing a self-made former junior high school teacher, commented, "It has been over a quarter of a century since I last got the chance to work together with Takakura. I'm really looking forward to work with him again."

While Kitano and Takakura's involvement alone would excite movie fans, "Anata e" boasts even more top class actors. Just to name a few, audiences will see performances from Tanaka Yuko, Sato Koichi, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi, Yo Kimiko, Ayase Haruka, Miura Takahiro, Otaki Hideji, Nagatsuka Kyouzou, Harada Mieko, and Asano Tadanobu.

Takakura expressed that he felt grateful for being able to work with so many great actors. "They are all such fantastic actors who exude individuality. I'm looking forward to meeting each and every one of them, and all the conversations we are going to have during the filming."

Seven of the actors mentioned above never worked together with Takakura before, including Kusanagi (who will play a sales clerk at a grocery store) as well as Yo and Ayase (who are going to become a mother-and-daughter pair for the movie).

Kusanagi commented, "I'm so happy and excited that I will be able to work with so many wonderful actors, especially Takakura."

Yo couldn't hold back her excitement as she gushed, "I can't remember the last time I've been so excited for a new project." Ayase added, "I want to give my everything for this role, so that none of all those great seniors will be bothered by my performance, and that everyone in the audience will be able to feel and enjoy the warmth of this movie."

"Anata e" was an original story was created by the late Ichiko Seichi, the producer of Kitano and Takakura's 1985 film, "Yasha". Unfortunately, Ichiko died in 2008, but director Furuhata Yasuo and scriptwriter Aoshima Takeshi decided to carry out Ichiko's last work.

The story is about a Japanese prison counselor called 'Kurashima Eiji' (Takakura) who lost his beloved wife (Tanaka) at the young age of 53. In her last 'etegami' (picture letter) to him, she wrote down that she would like to have her ashes scattered over the sea at her hometown. Since she never talked about her own family, Kurashima decides he wants to find out more about his late wife, and so he takes her ashes and his camper van to begin his travels to Kyushu. Along the way, he'll run into many different people and establish an unforgettable journey to fulfill the last wishes of his wife.

"Anata e" is almost done filming its scenes from the starting point of Takakura's journey in Toyama prefecture. The crew will move from location to location afterwards, and if everything goes well, they should be able to finish everything by the middle of November.

"Anata e" is slated for a release in fall of 2012. Stay tuned to tokyohive for more updates on this exciting project!
