On September 10th, it was announced that singer-songwriter Cocco’s starring movie 'KOTOKO' (directed by Tsukamoto Shinya) received an Orizzonti prize at the ‘68th Venice International Film Festival’. The Venice International Film Festival is the oldest film festival in the world.
The film tells the story of a woman who tries very hard to raise a child, but the struggle eventually destroys the balance in her life. It is said to be based on Cocco’s real-life experiences. Filming for the movie was completed just one day before its showing at the film festival.
Director Tsukamoto, who received this prize, said, “I want to dedicate this to Cocco, who poured all her energy for this movie. Right now, Japan is a place of sorrow and I worry about my important people who live there. So, I want to dedicate this to them as well”, then gave his dedication speech to the audience.
