It's been reported that Sometani Shota and Nikaido Fumi have received the 'MARCELLO MASTROIANNI AWARD' for their movie, "Himizu" at the 68th Venice International Festival!
Commenting on the distinction, director Sono said, "I dedicate this movie to the young people of the world."�The showing of "Himizu" in Venice attracted over 1,300 people at the Sala Grande, and received a five-minute standing ovation. In response, director Sono, Sometani, and Nikaido stood up amongst the crowd, and greeted the audience. Sono expressed, "If we're going to receive an award, we want to receive it without hesitation."
"Himizu" is a live-action film adaptation of Furuya Minoru's popular manga. It portrays the story of an ordinary 15-year-old boy and girl whose fates suddenly changes after a certain incident. Sometani plays the role of the lead character, 'Sumida Yuichi', while Nikaido plays the heroine, 'Chazawa Keiko'.
