Today, both the first poster and trailer for the much-talked about live-action adaption of "Himizu" have been released.
In the original manga, mangaka Furuya Minoru tried to explore the darkness inside the heart, which was very well received by manga fans and turned it into a popular bestseller.
Famed director Sono Sion ("Noriko's Dinner Table", "Love Exposure"), tried to capture the same atmosphere for his live-action adaption. With this opportunity, he got to work together with the two talented young actors, Sometani Shota and Nikaido Fumi. With their bloodcurdling portrayal of today's youth, both of them already earned the 'Marcello Mastroianni Award', which is given to the best new young actors, at the 68th Venice International Festival.
Aside from the already powerful original story to work with, Sono also used the aftermath of the Great Tohoku Earthquake to create an even more haunting setting for the movie.
The poster for "Himizu" perfectly expresses the characters and the lives of the two protagonists; 'Sumida Yuichi' (Sometani) with the besmirched face and 'Chazawa Keiko' (Nikaido) who is approaching him kindly.
The supporting cast includes Watanabe Tetsu, Mitsuishi Ken, Denden, Kagurazaka Megumi, Kubozuka Yosuke, Yoshitaka Yuriko, and more.
You can get a nice taste of the deep story, haunting setting, and fantastic performances in the first trailer below.
"Himizu" is slated to open in Japan on January 14th, 2012.
