It's been revealed that Coldplay's "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" will be used as the theme song for Oguri Shun and Okada Masaki's upcoming movie,"Uchuu Kyoudai".

The film is based on a popular manga about two boys who aim to become astronauts. Mangaka Koyama Chuya reportedly loved listening this British band while drawing the manga, and so the production decided to approach the British rock band with an offer. Coldplay was in Japan for the Fuji Rock Festival earlier this summer, which was when representatives handed them a promo clip of the movie.

Not expecting anything, the crew was surprised to hear from the band two weeks later. Apparently the members of Coldplay enjoyed what they saw in the clip and said, "We saw the clip and it looks like it's going to become a really great movie. We'd love to provide the theme song!"

Now that the news became official, Coldplay released a longer statement. "We are very happy and honored," they said. "It's the first time that one of our songs is being used as the theme song for a Japanese movie. We could only see a small, raw glimpse of the movie, but it already showed us how cool it's going to become. We love Japan and we are looking forward to see the final version of the movie!"

When Oguri heard the news, he commented, "I'm grateful that Coldplay accepted the offer. Like a rocket proceeding towards the infinite universe, they feature an incredibly vast ideology in all of their songs. They are letting our movie go along with the rocket's journey."

Okada was amazed as well and said, "That's so cool! I've always felt that the melody of this song goes along well with the theme of 'Uchuu Kyoudai'. It's a song that makes you want to face forward. This is exactly the kind of uplifting song that makes your body feel light!"

"Uchuu Kyoudai" will open in Japanese theaters in May 2012.
