Last weekend, the full trailer for Ninagawa Mika's upcoming live-action adaptation of Okazaki Kyoko's popular manga 'Helter Skelter' started screening at movie theaters nationwide. It took a while but finally on May 14th, distributor Asmik Ace uploaded the trailer onto the web.
'Helter Skelter' marks the comeback of actress Sawajiri Erika after a five year-long abstinence from the silver screen. It tells the story of a woman named Ririko (Sawajiri), who received cosmetic surgery on her entire body, thus allowing her to become a shining top star in the entertainment industry. Eventually, however, her body starts to deteriorate due to the procedureís after-effects. During this time, Ririko causes many incidents one right after another, drawing people around her into the fray.
The trailer showcases Sawajiri's complete commitment to Ninagawa's own world and features various bizarre moments, including a short glimpse at her colorful love scenes with the actors Aikawa Sho, Kubozuka Yosuke, and Ayano Go. From provocative and glamorous scenes to the protagonists complete mental breakdown, Sawajiri is putting on a very powerful performance and shows the viewers a vast amount of facets. The other co-stars, including Omori Nao, Terajima Shinobu, Momoi Kaori, Mizuhara Kiko, and Arai Hirofumi are impressively bringing their characters to life with greatly eccentric performances as well.
Over the weekend it was also decided that its official Japan premiere along with a stage greeting is already going to happen on July 5th, one week before the public release of the movie on July 14th. In April, a very special audience of critics, columnist, artists, and directors were already able to see the movie in a private screening. After the screening, they gave high compliments to the movie, the director and the actors.
