A documentary called 'LIGHT UP NIPPON ~Nihon wo Terashita, Kiseki no Hanabi~' is soon going to be screened in cinemas and streamed online. Parts of its proceedings will be used to repeat the same fireworks project this year.

The documentary follows a single man and his desire to offer a great fireworks spectacle to as many people as possible in the Tohoku region five months after the Great Tohoku Earthquake. In the end, he succeeded in having big fireworks shows done in ten different places in Tohoku simultaneously on August 11, 2011, but it certainly wasn't an easy project.

His idea to support the people in the Tohoku region with a firework show didn't receive much support from the people living there at first. Many of them disliked the idea, deemed it inconsiderate and judged that it's still too early for such an event, but after numerous of discussions, they finally warmed up to his idea.

It's impossible to fathom how much was taken away from the people by this disaster, but this documentary depicts how people have become connected to each other afterwards. From children amazed by the pretty colors in the night sky to adults immersed in their thoughts, their eyes swelling up with tears, it's a very touching scene when all those people finally watch the fireworks and share this beautiful moment.

This year they want to repeat the same spectacle at the Pacific Coast of the Tohoku region and plan to use the revenue of this documentary to fund it. Viewers who stream it online will be able to pick from different payment options, which will help fund either a 3-go-dama (blast radius of 100m), a 5-go-dama (blast radius of 150m) or a 10-go-dama shell (blast radius of 280m). The screening will be available online at Kinezo from July 7th until July 20th. Of course, you can also donate without watching the movie.

The movie was directed by Kakimoto Kensaku, narrated by actress Kuroki Hitomi, and the theme song and background music was handled by Sakamoto Ryuichi.

'LIGHT UP NIPPON ~Nippon wo Terashita, Kiseki no Hanabi~' will open in cinemas on July 7th.
