As announced previously, the design for the charity T-shirts of this years '24 Hour Television' was completed jointly by Arashis Ohno Satoshi and modern artist Nara Yoshitomo. In 1.5 months, sales of the T-shirts have reached 596,203 (as of August 9th). This surpasses the 458,306 shirts sold in 2008, and currently holds the record for most number of '24 Hour TV' T-shirts sold. With sales averaging at about 2000 daily, it is expected that sales will surpass 600,000 soon, if it hasnt already done so.
This years charity event is titled 24 Hour Television 35 Ai wa Chikyuu wo Sukuu and the theme is Mirai (Future).
On the front of the T-shirt is a picture of a child with the words 'Mirai' in his eyes and two halves of a dicotyledon sprout, signifying a start towards the future,on his head . The back of the T-shirts carries a calligraphic rendering of the words Mirai, written by Ohno in bold strokes. It is the first time multiple artists have collaborated for the T-shirt design.
The event will be broadcasted on August 25th and 26th.
